Happy National Natural Hair Meetup Day!!

Today is the first annual National Natural Hair Meetup Day! Having naturals all across the nation come together to celebrate rocking their own natural hair, is pretty freakin amazing.

I sadly cannot participate in LA’s event, so I’m reflecting on the last natural hair soiree I had the pleasure of attending: my girl, Angel’s event for KisforKinky.com.

I’m the worst for not putting up these photos sooner but I’m excited to share them now! Shall we?

The always radiant, Felicia Leatherwood and I getting our stripes on!

Tanika Ray may be the only person who can make me smile while playing in my curls!

She’s a lawyer and she’s a natural! Here’s me and my friend, Merissa Grayson!

Looking like the gorgeous professional model she is, it’s Nikia Phoenix!

Such a fun time! See more photos Here, Here, and Here!

The Chitown Fashionista Redesign!

Yup, I’ve been majorly MIA ’round these parts – but for good reason! I’ve been grinding it out working on the redesign of ChitownFashionista.com!

Nikia contacted me nearly 2 months ago looking to take her blogspot site to the wonderful world of WordPress with an awesome new layout to match. I was beyond excited because I LOVE redesigns! I appreciate seeing where the site owner was and where they want to be, incorporating their personal style.

It’s like giving a website a majorly awesome facelift!

Super duper huge thanks to my friends and programmer extraordinaires, Joseph Mirabeau and Ernie Cervantez for making this site come alivvveeeee!

We’ve received major praise including a mention on Refinery 29!

And twitter was a buzzin! The comments blew me away!

Now it’s your turn! Interested in my design services?

It’s Business Time!

Hey friends! How’s everyone doing? It’s already the 30th, can you believe it? April FLEW by for me!

April 2012 was especially awesome because it marked my first full month of the self-employed chapter of my life!

I’ve had my career in graphic design since I was 21 although I’ve been designing since I discovered it as a hobby when I was 14. Only recently did I have the courage to partially leave my full time job at REVOLVEclothing.com to try my hand at making my own living, on my own terms. So far, I LOVE IT!

Since I realized that many graphic designers work from home (this dawned on me when I was about 18) I knew this was the goal. I even put an age on this goal, 26. Two weeks before my 26th birthday, I moved into my apartment with my home office and got to work! I still go in to the Revolve office twice a week and spend some time working there as well. Truth be told, I LOVE Revolve. The people are awesome and it’s truly one of the best working environments. Oh and the employee discount- my, oh my, love that discount! Right now I’m having the perfect balance of working for myself and within a corporate environment with some of my favorite people. It’s pretty awesome and I’m very happy.

I have to say, one of the reasons why my transition to working for myself was so easy is because my clients are some of the best around! I work with Afrobella on her visuals and videos, I designed the photobooth for KisforKinky’s recent LA event, and Avon Cosmetics had me produce the Oscar prep videos with Luvvie and Afrobella last March.

I’m also working on some projects I’m really excited about with Hey Fran Hey, Chitown Fashionista, Jocks and Stiletto Jill, Grind and Thrive, and Hair Liberty! I’ll definitely share these when they go live. Can’t wait!

What are your career goals? How are you working to make them a reality?
